PCC’s Board Meetings
Persian Cultural Center’s board of directors held its meetings on July 10 and August 14, 2024, to review the current activities and plan for future activities.
Jong e Farhangi – July 12, 2024
Jong e Farhangi, hosted by Ali Sadr, took place on July 12 at the Iranian American Center (IAC). The book A Memoir and Political Satire of Parviz Khatibi was introduced. The guest of the program was Firouzeh Khatibi, producer and editor of the memoir. Parviz Khatibi’s amazing career and contributions were discussed. In the second part of the program, the first scene of Khatibi’s play “Bezan Berim Iran” was read by Daryoush Irannejad, Sara Taghavi, and Ali Pirouzian.
A Poet and A Poem – July 17, 2024
The 32nd session of “A Poet and A Poem” took place on July 17. This virtual session featured the biography and poems of Ohadoddin Kermani, presented by the Poetry and Literature Group of San Diego, along with young students from ISSD.
Film & Discussion Series – July 28, 2024
A special Film and Discussion program, presented by Mahmoud Reza Pirouzian, was held in July with the screening of the movie The Tree of Life, along with a Q&A session with the director Mr. Homan Babanorouzi. This documentary film took a look at the lives of the Ahmadpour brothers, the child actors in the famous Abbas Kiarostami movie Where Is The Friend’s House after 30 years.
Jong e Farhangi – August 9, 2024
In August, host Ali Sadr interviewed Mehrnoosh Mazarei, the author of Sangam and Other Stories, and Nooshin Vahidi, the author of Kaseh Zeytoon. Sangam and Other Stories is a collection of three previously-published books of short stories that has been recently re-published by Raha Publication of Vancouver, Canada. Kaseh Zeytoon, Vahidi’s first book, is a collection of ten short stories recently published by Baran Publication of Sweden. After the interviews, the authors responded to audience questions and read parts of their books.
Film and Discussion – August 25, 2024
The film and discussion program for August was dedicated to the screening of the film Sholevar (2018), directed by Hamid Nematollah, at the Iranian American Center. In the second part of the program, a question-and-answer session was held.
PCC Youth Committee
On Friday, August 23, 2024, the Youth Committee hosted a Family Fun Night at the Iranian American Center. There was live music performed by members of the Youth Committee. The attendees shared food and participated in dance, games, and fun. Future programs consist of helping ISSD with registration and preparations in September, visiting a nursing home in October, and organizing a seminar on college enrollment in November.
The Youth Committee had its annual meeting in August and chose the executive committee.
The YC would like to express its special thanks and congratulations to our graduating Youth Committee members. We wish them much success in the new chapter of their lives. These members are Kayvon Baha, Kamron Baha, Donya Hafezi, Shahin Hafezi, Donna Mahmoudi, and Arteen Mahmoudi. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and compassion for your culture and community. You will continue to have a special role in our committee in your new positions.
