Baraye simply means \u201cfor.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Each line of lyrics starts with Baraye (for) simple demands and reasons that Shervin had gathered from various tweets. The result was a powerful and poetic poem for freedom and women\u2019s rights. Within two days, the video was watched 40 million times. The song became an anthem of the demonstrations and rallies, in Iran and around the world. The song was performed at major concerts and translated into other languages.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">\u201cA song can unite, inspire, and ultimately change the world,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI am honored to announce the first winner of the Recording Academy\u2019s best song for social change to Shervin Hajipour.\u201d She continued: \u201cThis song continues to resonate around the world with its powerful theme\u2014Women, Life, Freedom.\u201d While Shervin\u2019s \u201cBaraye\u201d was being played in the background,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Biden concluded: \u201cCongratulations, Shervin, and thank you for your song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3380\" src=\"http:\/\/peykmagazine.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sherwin-hajipoor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/peykmagazine.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sherwin-hajipoor.jpg 600w, http:\/\/peykmagazine.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sherwin-hajipoor-515x322.jpg 515w, http:\/\/peykmagazine.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sherwin-hajipoor-270x170.jpg 270w, http:\/\/peykmagazine.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Sherwin-hajipoor-130x80.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Shortly after the song went viral, Shervin was arrested and taken to the notorious Evin Prison.
