In a virtual session, the poems and a biography of \u201cAsadi Toosi\u201d were presented by the Poetry & Literature Committee. Young ISSD students recited poems, as did other attendees.<\/p>\n

Virtual Movie Discussion Series \u2013 January 26, 2023<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n The selected movie for the month of January was The Female Voices of Iran<\/i>\u00a0(2020), a\u00a0film produced by Yalda Yazdani and directed by Andreas Rochholl<\/span>. The guests of the program were Ms. Maliheh Moradi and Ms. Mina Deris, who featured in this documentary. They reviewed the film and answered audience questions. The program host and moderator was Mahmoud Reza Pirouzian.<\/p>\n Movie Discussion Series \u2013 February 23, 2023<\/b><\/p>\n In this hybrid event, the movie The Lovely Trash<\/i>\u00a0(2002) was screened at the Iranian American Center before a live audience. The movie was directed by Mohsen Amir Yousefi. A number of movie lovers joined the discussion about the movie virtually. Mahmoud Reza Pirouzian hosted and moderated the discussion.<\/p>\n Voices Unveiled (Avaaz e Khoroushan) Concert \u2013 February 12, 2023<\/b><\/p>\n On the evening of Saturday, February 12, a group of excellent musicians accompanied vocalists Maliheh Moradi and Mina Deris in a beautiful concert entitled \u201cVoices Unveiled.\u201d The concert was at the Iranian American Center. The musicians were Ehsan Matoori, on santoor; Moslem Alipour, on kamancheh; Mohammad Shabani, on percussions; and Danielle De Cario, on bass. The music was composed by Ehsan Matoori. This is an excerpt from the concert announcement:<\/p>\n The Voices Unveiled is a three-part original musical composition inspired by Iranian traditional music, folk (South of Iran), with fusion elements. It follows the tragic stories of two women refugees who lost their lives. In part one, the music depicts the story of an Iranian girl who fled Iran after she was imprisoned and tortured for removing and burning her head scarf and participating in anti-government protests.\u00a0Part two recounts the story of a woman from the southern tribes of Iran who is chosen to be sacrificed as part of the Cease Blood (\u201cFaslieh\u201d in Arabic; \u201cKhoon Bas\u201d in Farsi) custom.\u00a0In part three, in spite of the deep mourning, the two women find hope, rebirth, love, and eternity through their voices.<\/i><\/p>\n PCC\u2019s Youth Committee\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n The Youth Committee organized a family night at the Iranian American Center on February 11, 2023. The attendees participated in several games and enjoyed the dinner. The members gathered donations during the family night for the San Diego Humane Society to help the shelters in the area. On February 24, 2023, they arranged a hike at Torrey Pines State Park. The next project is to participate in the beach cleanup operation on Earth Day (April 22, 2023).
