\n

I am a child of hyacinths and pine needles,
\nwith my strong nose and wide eyes,
\na child, a chance, born into a new land.<\/p>\n

I am a girl, a romantic, a visionary,
\nArising from dreams for better opportunities
\nA daughter of immigrants and a descendant of pioneers,
\nspeak of saffron and rosewater and hot dogs.<\/p>\n

I sing with my ancestors to remember their song
\nI write for my future, somewhere far away from what came before
\nI dance to the song of the nay and daf, their rhythms in my heart:
\nDum-tak-tak, pumping my blood, echoing in my mind.<\/p>\n

I dream in two tongues, history and future
\nMy mother: of poetry, of music, of wine and heartache
\nMy home: of eagles, of freedom, of new beginnings and novelty
\nThey blend together like turmeric and spaghetti.<\/p>\n

I am a child of hyacinths and pine needles
\nI was born in a world split
\nBut I am whole.<\/p>\n

\"\"Past, Present, Future<\/span><\/h3>\n

Walking through my past,
\nI stop at Persepolis<\/i> near my birthplace Shiraz.
\nStanding tall are the majestic ancient columns,
\npillars of my pride,
\nand I am in awe!<\/p>\n

Coming across, Pasargad<\/i>, resting place of Cyrus the Great,
\n<\/i>A dignified monument, a reminder of a glorious time.
\nStory of a compassionate king who pardoned Jews, freed slaves of Babylon, and spared so many lives,
\nA king who planted seeds of democracy in that far away time.
\na paradigm of humanity, benevolence, and justice,
\na teacher of what was right and wrong.<\/p>\n

Proudly, I walk through my history where so many names shine,
\nmen and women of great deeds in all walks of life.
\nGreat masters of philosophy, science, literature, and poets like:
\nSaadi, Hafez, Khayyam, Ferdowsi, Rumi, Nezami,
\nWhom among many, they sure stand tall.<\/p>\n

Sauntering through my garden of memories,
\nI smell aromas of jasmines and narcissus in the air,
\nI taste the sweetness of figs, white berries and plums,
\nlife seems so colorful imagining red seeds of a pomegranate,
\nand I rejoice remembering pistachios smiling at me,
\nplaced in my grand-mother\u2019s antique jar.<\/p>\n

My memories travel to the magnificent Isfahan and Kashan,
\nwith great wonders of architecture, and handmade arts.
\nI cannot help but admire such awe-inspiring minds.<\/p>\n

At the gates of Persepolis and barrow of Pasargad,
\n<\/i>While rejoicing this journey, embracing my roots,
\nI am mindful not to be lost with my hubris, my pride,
\nA new century is here and I must move on.<\/p>\n

I must rise to the \u201cPresent,\u201d I must be mindful of Now! <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Remember, Sun always rises from the East,
\nPersia shined as the beacon of light, power and prowess,
\nthe cradle of \u201cgood words, good deeds and good thoughts,\u201d
\nmust shine again!<\/p>\n

Rich with bounty of the past, I must pursue the future,
\nReminding myself, I am, you are, and we are makers of our destiny.<\/p>\n

I am the future, you are the future, we are the future.<\/b><\/p>\n

My branches are far from their roots, but the seeds are still in the soil.
\nOur children are the torch holder of the bright future,
\nThey will Revive the glory of this ancient land.<\/p>\n

I have a duty, \u201cI have a dream.\u201d
\nI must rise and touch the reality of my dream,
\nI must transcend beyond the darkness to see the light,<\/p>\n

Tomorrow is mine, tomorrow is yours, tomorrow is ours.<\/b><\/p>\n

Roses of Kashan must bloom once again,
\nRivers, lakes and streams dancing with the waves,
\nOur ancestors are watching,
\nWe must rise from the ashes again.<\/p>\n

Recent history has been unkind to my motherland,
\nBut proudly,
\nI am sister of Irandokht<\/i> and Pourandokht<\/i>,
\nWomen who ruled with wisdom and much more.<\/p>\n

Let my Past shine and guide me on my journey,
\nLet my Present be a learning lesson,
\nthrusting me to a Future that,<\/p>\n
