PCC’s Board Meetings
Persian Cultural Center’s board of directors holds its meetings every second Wednesday of the month virtually, via Zoom. The last two meetings took place on November 8 and December 13, 2023.
Persian Music and Spiritual Health – October 25, 2023
Grammy Award-winning artist Sahba Mottalebi on tar and multi-Grammy percussionist T. J. Troy performed on the stage of Conrad Prebys Music Center at USCD.
The concert was sponsored by the Music Department of UCSD with the cooperation of PCC and AIAP.
Alborz, We Climb the Mountains, A documentary – October 28, 2023
The screening of this award-winning documentary took place at the UCSD Qualcomm Institute. The documentary was about Alborz High School in Tehran and was directed by Maryam Sepehri. This program was sponsored by the Music Department of UCSD with the cooperation of PCC and AIAP.
A Poet and a Poem – November 15, 2023
In a virtual event, the biography and poems of “Athir Akhsikati” were presented by the Poetry and Literature Group. Poems were also recited by attendees and young students of ISSD. In December 2023, there was no session of “A Poet and a Poem” due to the observance of holidays. However, the 27th session of the series is scheduled to take place on January 17, 2024.
Film & Discussion Series – December 1, 2023
The film and discussion program for December was dedicated to the film Wednesday, directed by Soroush Mohammad Zadeh, and produced in 2015. This film was screened at the Iranian American Center, with a review and discussion by the audience (in person and virtually) following the show. The program host and moderator was Mahmoud Reza Pirouzian.
Mahsa Vahdat and Bridget Kibbey in Concert – December 2, 2023
With the invitation of the Music Department of UCSD and in cooperation with PCC and AIAP, the Mahsa Vahdat and Bridget Kibbey performed at the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall. The title of the concert was Thinking of Hope. Mahsa Vahdat performed several beautiful songs accompanied by Bridget Kibbey on the harp.
Yalda Celebration – Escondido Public Library – December 7, 2023
As part of the Cultural Fair Series, the Escondido Public Library, in cooperation with PCC, celebrated Yalda, the Persian winter solstice. The program consisted of live Shahnameh khani (reciting Shahnameh—the book of kings) was another part of the entertainment.
Stand-up Comedy by Arman at IAC – December 9, 2023
On December 9, Arman, the stand-up comedian, was our guest at the IAC. This was Arman’s first appearance in San Diego. He was very funny and the audience enjoyed the program very much.
PCC Youth Committee Report
The Youth Committee held its monthly meeting at PCC in November. Additionally, the committee organized a Family Night (animal drive) on November 3, 2023, during which it collected items for an animal shelter. The food drive, conducted throughout November, successfully collected 435 lbs of food and $100 in cash, all of which was donated to the San Diego Food Bank. For the second time, Youth Committee members participated in the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, benefiting Father Joe’s Villages, and raising $1,500. For a bonding day, committee members played volleyball at Westview High School.

Yalda Celebration at IAC – December 16, 2023
PCC’s Yalda celebration was at the Iranian American Center with Ziba Shirazi, Salman Mohammadi and Mehrdad Arabi performing some traditional Persian songs. The guests gathered around the Yalda table and recited poetry and songs.
