PCC’s Board Meetings
Persian Cultural Center’s board of directors holds its meetings every second Wednesday of the month virtually, via Zoom. The last two meetings took place on September 11 and October 9, 2024.
A Poet and a Poem – September 18, 2024
The 33rd session of “A Poet and a Poem” took place on September 18. This virtual session featured the biography and poems of “Kamal al-Din Isfahani” and was presented by the Poetry and Literature Group of San Diego, along with young students from ISSD (Hajar Sattarzadeh, Mana Ajideh).
Namad Ensemble with Mahboubeh Golzari in Concert – September 21, 2024
On the evening of Saturday September 21, 2024, The Namaad Ensemble, consisting of Kourosh Taghavi (sehtar), Pejman Haddadi (tonbak), and Saeed Kamjoo (kamancheh), accompanied by Mahbobe Golzari (vocal), performed a memorable concert at IAC. The concert was sold out several weeks in advance. The audience enjoyed beautiful Iranian classical music with diverse melodies and rhythms.
Film & Discussion Series – September 27, 2024
“Jila,” a film from the Karstan documentary series, directed by Rakhshan Bani-Etamad and Mojtaba Mirtahmaseb, was held on Friday evening, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. After the screening of the film, Mrs. Elham Moore, KCIS (Keep Children in School) president, attended the Q&A session virtually and explained about Mrs. “Jila Kashef” and answered the attendee’s questions. The program was moderated by Mahmoud Reza Pirouzian.
Persian Fall Festival “Mehregan” – October 5, 2024
The eighth annual joint celebration of Mehregan with San Diego Museum of Art took place at the museum’s Copley Auditorium on Saturday, October 5, 2024. All proceeds from this event were allocated in support of the Iranian Arts section of the museum. Supporters and guests first visited the Iranian Arts section with new additions and then assembled at the auditorium to enjoy a concert by “Sirya Ensemble.” The report of this event is presented on page 7.
Hafez Day at the San Diego Central Library
– October 12, 2024
The fifth annual Hafez Day celebration took place on the afternoon of Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Neil Morgan Auditorium of the San Diego Central Library. This was the day to celebrate the life and work of Hafez, the most famous Persian poet. The program was organized by the San Diego Public Library’s Central Library and PCC. After a welcome by the hosts, UCSD world history and cultures librarian, Dr. Farshad Sonboldel, spoke on Hafez, his enduring appeal, and his central place in the literature of Iran and the rest of the world. The program continued with reciting ghazals in Persian and English. Hafez translator Dr. Ali Arsanjani also introduced his book of Hafez ghazals, The Words that Bring Us to Dance. The final part of the program was a performance of beautiful Persian music performed by the Dornob Trio.
A Poet and a Poem – October 16, 2024
In a virtual event hosted by Farshad Babakhani, Fariba Babakhani, and Sepideh Shamloufard, the biography and poems of “Baba Afzal Kashani” were presented by the Poetry and Literature Group of San Diego. Additionally, poems were recited by ISSD students, as well as other attendees of the event.
Film & Discussion Series – October 27, 2024
On October 27, the classic movie The Brick & The Mirror, written and directed by Ebrahim Golestan, was screened at IAC. The guest of the program was Mr. Fardin Sahebzamani, director and filmmaker. The film was reviewed and the program concluded with a Q&A. The program host and moderator was Mahmoud Reza Pirouzian.
The PCC Youth Committee
The PCC Youth Committee held its monthly meeting at IAC on Friday, August 23, 2024. Officers were elected for the coming year. The results are as follows:
• Co-presidents: Kouroush Miri, Kimia Mostowfi, Ronica Najmabadi
• Vice-presidents: Natasha Asgari, Ariana Tartibi
• Secretaries: Ayden Pargal, Ryan Sadighi
• Treasurer: Bahar Motarjemi
The PCC Youth Committee also held a Family Night on Friday, August 23. Two of our committee members, Ramteen and Shayan Azmoodeh, along with Mr. Saman Fathpour, performed live music. Thanks to their efforts, the money raised will be donated to families in need. The committee also assisted in preparing folders for ISSD students for the new school year.
