PCC’s Board Meetings

The meetings of the Board of Directors of PCC were held on September 11 and October 9 to review and plan the activities of the Persian Cultural Center.

Persian Traditional Singing Workshop (Tasnifkhani) with Kourosh Taghavi – September 13, 2025

On the evening of Saturday, September 13, Kourosh Taghavi performed another one of his tasnifkhani programs in a crowded hall at the Iranian American Center, accompanied by his setar. In this program, several old Persian songs were taught and performed as a choir.

Film and Discussion – September 27, 2025

The September film and discussion program focused on the documentary Four Girls (2023), directed by Kawthar Ben Henia, a joint production from Tunisia, France, and Germany. The guest of the program was Ms. Tanya Ahmadi, a researcher and film critic, who answered questions from the program host, Mahmoud-Reza Pirouziyan, and the attendees.

Mehregan Festival – October 4, 2025

For the ninth consecutive year, to support the Iranian arts section at the San Diego Museum of Art, the Persian Cultural Center and the management of the San Diego Museum of Art held the Mehregan Festival at the museum. This event took place in the James Copley Hall of the museum, with performances by Sara Naeini and Reza Rohani along with their group. All proceeds from this event were dedicated to the preservation and development of the Iranian arts section at the San Diego Museum of Art. Thanks were extended to Ms. Anahita Babaei, who managed this program, and the PCC’s Culture and Arts Committee members.

Hafez Day – October 12, 2025

The sixth “Hafez Day” program was held on Sunday, October 12, at the Iranian American Center, thanks to the efforts of the Persian Cultural Center and in cooperation with the Central Library of San Diego. The program began with a welcome from Ali Sadr, followed by Fereydoun Memar introducing Hafez Day. Dr. Rashid Salim from the University of California, Berkeley, was the main speaker who delivered a talk on “Hafez and the Hemmat of Hope”. Subsequently, Maryam Iravanian recited Hafez’s saghinameh in Persian. Continuing with the program, Kourosh Taghavi, a skilled setar player, performed pieces of Iranian music, which were well received by the audience.

One Poet, One Poem – October 15, 2025

After a break in September, the forty-second session of “A Poet and a Poem” took place on October 15. This virtual session featured the biography and poems of Abdul Qadir Gilani, presented by the Poetry and Literature Group of San Diego, featuring Farshad Babakhani, Fariba Babakhani, and Sepideh Shamloufard. Other poems were also recited by the attendees, enriching the event with diverse voices and perspective.

Energy Relaxation and Sound Program – October 25, 2025

This program was conducted by Ms. Naghmeh Taefi on the afternoon of Saturday, October 25, at the Iranian American Center. Participants experienced relaxation through crystal sound and Reiki energy.

Film and Discussion – October 26, 2025

Continuing the examination of films on teenage girls and young women, the October program featured the film Mustang (2015), directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, from Turkey. Ms. Tanya Ahmadi reviewed and critiqued this film and answered participants’ questions.

Youth Committee

The Youth Committee held its monthly meeting after a two-month summer hiatus on Thursday, September 25, at IAC. In this meeting, the group’s upcoming activities were planned for the next few months.

An educational seminar and counseling for university entry was held at the Iranian American Center on October 8. In this free event, Ms. Heidi Bridges, an experienced advisor, guided teenagers and their families. A family fun night with friends and families was held on Friday, October 17, at the IAC.

Future activities of the group include collecting food for needy individuals in San Diego, visiting nursing homes, attending the annual Father Joe’s walk on Thanksgiving to help the homeless, and fundraising through homemade pastry sales at the Iranian school.
